Cabarrus County Public Library Summer Reading Program

 

June 5, 2009 – Cabarrus County Public Library’s summer reading program kicks off Monday, June 15 with lots of fun activities to get kids excited about reading their way through the summer. Children from preschool through elementary school will “Be Creative” with lots of fun activities to foster creativity throughout the summer.

The libraries also offer age–appropriate summer reading programs for teens and adults. Summer reading program participants of all ages keep track of time spent reading to receive prizes throughout the summer.

The Mount Pleasant branch of the Cabarrus County Public Library will kick off the summer reading program with a celebration Saturday, June 13 from 11 am until 1 pm. Come out to the library for a free hot dog lunch and entertainment by The Balloon Lady.

The Kannapolis branch of the Cabarrus County Public Library will kick off its summer reading program Monday, June 15 at 10 am with a performance by Pirate Extraordinaire Captain Jim at Village Park in Kannapolis.

The Concord branch of the Cabarrus County Public Library will kick off its summer reading program Monday, June 15 at 11 am with entertainment by The Balloon Lady and Cabarrus County Gymnastics.

The Harrisburg branch of the Cabarrus County Public Library will feature two presentations by A Walk in the Woods Tuesday, June 16. At 1 pm, children ages three to five years old can meet live reptiles and insects and examine different animal furs. At 2 pm, children ages six years old and older meet live reef animals, examine prehistoric shark teeth and shark egg cases. Advance registration is required for both presentations.

Caregiver Camp is a Helpful Resource Teaching Stress-Reduction

June 4, 2009 – Caring for someone with a chronic illness such as dementia, heart disease, Parkinson’s disease, stroke or other disabilities can be stressful physically, emotionally and financially. To assist those caring for older relatives or friends, the Cabarrus County Senior Center if offering a free Caregiver Camp to provide caregivers with the tools they need to take care of themselves while caring for a loved one. At the camp, caregivers will learn to reduce stress, locate helpful resources, improve self-confidence, better communicate their feelings, balance their lives and increase their ability to make tough decisions.

The Caregiver Camp will be held June 30 through July 2 from 10 am until 3:30 pm each day at the Cabarrus County Senior Center in Concord. There is no charge to participate. If caregivers need to arrange for care or supervision for a loved one so they can attend, or if they need transportation, services may be available.
